Due to increased costs of the meter and other raw good we are discontinuing this product. The smaller euro-pedal version will continue to be available. I really love this pedal design. Fact of the matter is that when we order the meters there are always ones that don’t meet retail standards. Sometimes its minor scrapes or marks. Other times its smudges that won’t wipe of the plastic glass. Since we buy these from overseas in smaller quantities than major brands, it makes it incredibly hard and costly to return them. The current tariff situation has also not resolved its self.

That may be by design. Offer a full refund but you have to return the items. Shipping is $$$.

…But what ever reason it adds up. I find myself working for less than minimum wage 😂 …QC has been an ever increasing issue since covid. It’s like everything got sloppier and less care goes in to manufacturing. It would be a lot different if there wasn’t waste within every order and I could count on knowing what I’m paying for will arrive 100% perfect.

It’s finally here, the official Hyde Distortion Filter with an illuminated VU meter. I’ve had a lot of requests to mod and illuminate vintage meters and its not often possible. So after careful consideration we made this alternative. I feel this maintains the image and quality I’m striving for. It comes in ether European Beech in a dark finish or natural oiled walnut.

The circuit is the same Hyde Distortion Filter found on the now discontinued Jekyll n Hyde dual filter boxes and the smaller euro pedal. This version is a step up for folks who would like easier interfacing with standard instruments such as keyboards, drum machines and other guitar pedals while still maintaining eurorack style CV control. It has 1/4″ jacks for the in/out audio signal on the back and an additional LFO out on the top panel. The LFO out can also be used as a CV input for the LPF (low pass filter) the filter will respond differently than with the dedicated LPF CV jack on the front panel.

But what is a Hyde Distortion Filter?

This is a low pass (all analog) diode ladder filter with two distinct pre-distortion circuits. Depending on how the knob is set there is a third district sound where the two signals meet.

This is a lower gain distortion so it works well with noisier synths. Since the filter is being overdriven by the pre-distortions you get a very unusual tonal quality. Tone can be affected by increasing or decreasing the output of whatever instrument or pedal you’re feeding into it.

You can bypass the distortions for a clean input. It has a very slow drifting LFO to keep the filter from sitting in a static position. There is a particular “worble” to this circuit. Much like vintage gear there is a touch of instability. You would hear this predominately when cranking up the resonance and clamping down the filter. Something not easily achieved with plugins or soft synths.

The Hyde Distortion Filter can run on lower voltages for a dirtier sound. For instance a 12volt supply that can provide enough current will drastically change the sound. The lower voltage will affect the smoothness of the filter. Experimenting with lower voltages will not damage anything. Just don’t use more than 18volts.

For your considerations. A Hyde/EFCcv distortion box. Analog ladder filter on the left. Analog distortion on the right. The wood is European Beech stained red mahogany and hand distressed by various instruments of destruction. When I’m gone I hope I am remembered for my love of wood boxes.

***Please read: Finally the completed vision. All analog filter and distortion. The Hyde Distortion Filter and the Electron Fuzz Custom CV together in one beautifully hand crafted box. The width is just 12.25″ wide and sits 5.5″ deep. Just slightly wider than an iMac keyboard.

All 1/8″ jacks for interfacing with modular synth systems. The output is still line level so we recommend using these with a GPI module or something similar for attenuation and reamping to eurorack levels. Or just use it as normal with synths and drum machines. You just need the 1/8″ to 1/4″ jacks sold here.

The circuit is the same Hyde Distortion Filter found on the now discontinued Jekyll n Hyde dual filter boxes and the smaller Hyde DF euro pedal with the expanded CV. There is just two of everything.

We recently had an order for two Hyde Distortion Filter euro pedals so we custom made this dual box. By rotating the Serpa Custom box vertically we were able to fit two of the circuits side by side. It’s a different look and takes up less space left to right.

Since we are no longer taking orders for the Jekyll n Hyde dual filter box this seems like a nice alternative for folks that would still like a dual mono filter setup.

Unique to this version is an input link toggle. Use this to patch in a single mono audio source and send it to each filter. **Probably not recommended to link inputs while using the unit with a stereo signal. You may get phase cancellation!

And a “Misc” mod. The Misc mod is similar to the Misc mod on the original Jekyll n Hyde Serpa box that functioned as a cross resonance feedback mod. I say “similar” because the mod points were different on the Jekyll filter. Here we have two identical filters so I’ve only got one position to link the resonant feeds back. But it sounds e’ffin cool. It produces some unpredictable overdriven distortion that varies depending on what your feeding into each filter.
